Accounting Department Project


In this shared project members in the accounting department will work on a spreadsheet that contains a general ledger. Each member in the department is responsible for posting the results of their specialized journal to this general ledger.

Save the files on your computer

The CFO should upload these Excel spreadsheet files to Dropbox web site

  1. Go to Dropbox.com web site.
  2. Create a folder called Accounting. It is the second icon from the left. If you hover over the icon you can see its purpose.
  3. When asked what is the name of your folder, key in Accounting.
  4. Click on Create Folder.
  5. Double click on the folder.
  6. Click Upload icon. It is the first icon on the left.
  7. Choose Files to upload to accounting folder.
  8. Locate the folder on your computer where you have stored the above six files.
  9. Select each file. Use the CTRL key to select multiple files.
  10. Click Open
  11. The files are added to the Accounting folder at this point.
  12. Click Done

Sharing the files with department members

  1. Get the email addresses of all of the members of your department.
  2. Write them down and keep them so that they are easily accessible.
  3. Go to Dropbox.com
  4. Click on the Accounting folder
  5. You should see the following files.
    • Bromley's Formal Wear Ledger.xls
    • cpnew.xls
    • cra.xls
    • gl2.xls
    • pj.xls
    • sja.xls
  6. Hover over each and you will see the Share button appear.
  7. Let's assume you have 5 people in your department.
  8. Each one is responsible for posting their specialized journals to the general ledger.
  9. You will need to provide each one with individual access to their individual journals and to the general ledger file.
  10. Let's do the individual file access first.
  11. Hover over the cpnew.xls file. This is the person in your department responsible for recording cash payments in the cash payments journal.
  12. Click on the share button next to this file.
  13. Click on the Send Link box.
  14. Key in the email address for this individual.
  15. In the message box, key in a message to this individual asking them to post the totals from this journal to the general ledger.
  16. Click SendA small green box appears at the top of our screen telling you that the message is being sent.
  17. A link icon appears next to the cpnew.xls under shared with.
  18. Repeat steps 1 - 7 for each file, giving access to each of the remaining people in your department to their individual files.

Sharing group access to the general ledger file.

  1. After individual files have been shared with the persons in your department responsible, hover over Bromley's Formal Wear Ledger file.
  2. Click on Share
  3. Click in the Send this link to box
  4. Key in the address of the first person in your accounting department that needs access to this file.
  5. Click Send
  6. Repeat this process for all department members, giving them access to the general ledger file.

What each member needs to do


  1. Go to your email account on your computer.
  2. There should be two emails sent to you via Dropbox.
  3. You are looking for your journal file and your ledger file.
  4. These emails are simply links to a file stored on the Dropbox web site.
  5. Click on the journal email first.
  6. Click to view link to see the journal file.
  7. You do not need a Dropbox account to view this.
  8. You can scroll through and view the file, but can not edit it yet.
  9. To edit the file Open or download it.
  10. You will not need to open or edit the journal file.
  11. Print out a copy of the journal file.
  12. We will be posting the results of this file to the general ledger.
  13. Return to the email and click on the ledger file in the Dropbox email.
  14. Click here to view the link
  15. Click Open
  16. Post numbers from the journal to the ledger
  17. Click File and Save
  18. The Dropbox file will reflect the changes you have made
  19. Other members in your department, can then continue with their postings to the ledger.
  20. CFO should go to the Dropbox web site and check the trial balance to make sure general ledger is in balance.

















Information Technology Department


In this project, three members in the Information Technology Department will work on the development of the company's home web page.

How to get the HTML file: Vice President of Technology


  1. Click on the HTML link in the the table above.
  2. The web page will open
  3. Right-click
  4. Select View page source.
  5. You will see the HTML code that makes the page.
  6. Drag the entire page.
  7. To put it on the clipboard, either hold down the CTRL Key and Press C for copy or right click and select copy.
  8. Open Notepad ++ or Notepad
  9. Select New
  10. Select EditPaste clipboard's content into Notepad++
  11. Click Save AS an HTML file
  12. Call the file rincon.html
  13. You will also need to save this file as a text file
  14. Click Save As, select .txt and save under the same name in the same folder.

How to get the style sheet file: Vice President of Technology


  1. Click on the file name for the cascading style sheet.
  2. Drag the entire contents with the mouse
  3. Right-click
  4. Select Copy
  5. Open Notepad++ or Notepad.
  6. Paste the file with CTRL + V
  7. Save the File as a css file
  8. Name the file Style.css.

Images Needed for Project

How to get the image files: Vice President of Technology

  1. Right-click the image
  2. Select Save image as
  3. Select the folder for storage
  4. Keep the file name the same
  5. Click Save
  6. Repeat this process for all images.

  1. Right-click the file name
  2. Select Save Link As
  3. Select your folder
  4. Click Save

Uploading Files for the IT Department: Vice President of Technology

  10. The Vice President of Technology wants the team to make a few changes
    • Use different images for the clothing- Web Designer 1
    • Find a new picture for the woody station wagon- Web Designer 1 - Html File
    • Change the fonts for all headings : H1, H2, H3 - Web Designer 2 - CSS file
    • Instead of white for the side news section, use a sand color.- Web Designer 2 - Css

What Web Designer 1 member needs to do.


  1. Go to your email account on your computer.
  2. There should be an email sent to you via Dropbox.
  3. You are looking for the IT folder.
  4. This email is simply a link to a file stored on the Dropbox web site.
  5. Click on email first.
  6. Click to view link to see your file.
  7. You do not need a Dropbox account to view this.
  8. You can scroll through and view the files, but can not edit it yet.
  9. To edit the file Open or download it.
  10. Now the file can be edited and printed.

How to make changes needed - images clothing and woody


  1. Open rincon.txt
  2. You need to modify this text file to make changes in the html file.
  3. The file will open in Notepad
  4. Scroll down through the document, until you see the 〈Aside id = "side_news"〉
  5. This is the section of the web page where the products are listed.
  6. Find the reference to shorts3.jpg
  7. Change the 3 to a 4 to select another image for board shorts.
  8. Next, find the reference to billabong5.jpg
  9. Change the 5 to a 1 to select a different image.
  10. Scroll down a little more and find the line referencing the image of the woody.jpg
  11. Add a 2 to the end of woody to select a different image for the woody station wagon.
  12. Click File- Save to save your work as a .txt file.
  13. Click File - Save As and add an .html extension to the rincon file name to save it as a web page.
  14. Click Save
  15. This file already exists on Dropbox, so you are prompted that this file already exists, click Yes button to replace the file.
  16. Close the Notepad application.
  17. Click the back button on the web browser
  18. Click on the rincon.html open box

  19. The whole folder opens up.
  20. Double-click on rincon.html to see the changes that you have made.

  21. Print out a copy of the finished HTML page.

What Web Designer 2 member needs to do.


  1. Go to your email account on your computer.
  2. There should be an email sent to you via Dropbox.
  3. You are looking for the IT folder.
  4. This email is simply a link to a file stored on the Dropbox web site.
  5. Click on email first.
  6. Click to view link to see your file.
  7. You do not need a Dropbox account to view this.
  8. You can scroll through and view the files, but can not edit it yet.

How to make changes needed in cascading style sheet file.

  1. Click on IT folder.
  2. Click on the file called Style.css
  3. It will open for viewing in Notepad.
  4. Click Open to see the file
  5. You can now edit it.
  6. Find the 〈H1〉tag
  7. This formatting tag tells the Html file how to format text after the tag.
  8. Change the font from Tahoma to Helvetica
  9. Change the font for tag 〈H2〉 from Times New Roman to Verdana
  10. Change the font for tag 〈H3〉 from Comic Sans to Book Antigua.
  11. Scroll down until you see the #side_news flex box tag.
  12. We are going to change the background color from #ffffff (white) to (bone) #e3dac9.
  13. After the changes are made, Save the file.
  14. Close Notepad.
  15. Double-click on rincon.html to see the font and color changes.
  16. Print out a copy of the page for the VP of Technology and your instructor.

Business Plan Project


In this assignment, a business plan is developed and stored in the cloud, so all people responsible for its development, can see what the other department heads are doing.

  1. I took a completed business plan and broke it into segments.
  2. See the list below.
  3. You will need four people to do this assignment: A CEO, CFO, VP Marketing, VP Human Resources.
  4. CEO person's job is to copy these files to their computer, upload them to the cloud. Get a list of all four employee's email addresses and share the appropriate files with the four people.
  5. They will then revise them and re-save the files
  6. The CEO or other vice president will reassemble the report from the different pieces.
  7. The final part will be putting the plan back together.

  4. Click on Create Folder.
  5. Double click on the folder.
  6. Click Upload icon. It is the first icon on the left.
  7. Choose Files to upload to Business Plan folder.
  8. Locate the folder on your computer where you have stored the above files.

Changes for CEO


  1. Mission Statement: Add education to the list of activities
  2. Table of Contents: Make the font Times New Roman 12
  3. Purpose: Change three months to four.
  4. Executive Summary: Changes ages from 16-22 to 16-24. Change 25% market share to 33%
  5. Business Objectives: Change 25% market share to 33%. Bullet instant messaging, ability to use program on mobile devices, translate software and questionnaire into other languages.
  6. Save each file after making changes.

Changes for VP of Sales and Marketing need to make


  1. Market/Industry Analysis: Change 40 million users to 50 million. 85% lie about their physical appearance. Change almost one half Google their dates to 60%
  2. Marketing Mix: Placement- add survey will also be stored on the cloud and links to it can be emailed to the clients.
  3. SWOT: Add another strength of your own choosing
  4. Save file after changes have been made.

Changes for VP of Human Resources


  1. Operating Procedures: In the organization chart, put in your name in place of Kay Dow
  2. Staffing: Change the font color of the job descriptions to blue

Changes for Chief Financial Officer

  1. Financial Data:
  2. Financial Write up. Add cubicles to the list of assets purchased. Change Excel to spreadsheet template.

  16. Other members in your department, can then continue with their part of the project.

Reassembling the project


  1. After changes have been made, the team needs to reassemble the project.
  2. Put it in the order of the file list.
  3. Go to Dropbox web site
  4. Open Business Plan Folder
  5. Click on Cover Page document
  6. Click on Open
  7. Microsoft Word will Open displaying the cover page.
  8. File - Save As business plan
  9. Minimize the business plan docu8ment.
  10. Click on the back button on Dropbox
  11. Click on Executive Summary
  12. The executive summary will open in Microsoft Word.
  13. Drag the entire document.
  14. Put it on the clipboard - CTRL + C
  15. Close the executive summary document
  16. You should see the cover page.
  17. Press Enter to go down to the next page. It should be blank
  18. Paste the executive summary information on this page, Ctrl + V
  19. File - Save
  20. Repeat the aove steps until the document is complete.
  21. Spell check
  22. Check over document for font selectin and other features to make it appear that it was written by one person.
  23. Save the document
  24. Printout a copy for your instructor.
